About Me

Deaf, policy wonk, community advocate and organizer, entrepreneur, journalist, and jack-of-all trades! I am most passionate about deaf rights and ending language deprivation. For fun, I enjoy hiking, scuba diving, snowboarding, craft beers, and traveling. 

Entrepreneurship

  • reFort was a eco-conscious business that partners with colleges and institutions to reuse and refurbish items on campus to reduce carbon footprints.  We were able to reduce the carbon footprint of universities in the DC metropolitan area by over 40,000 tons. Total raise, low six figures, closed in 2020 due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
  • The Virtual American Sign Language Academy (VASLA) - an education services business that strives to close the gaps for deaf education. We provide tutoring and test preparation courses for deaf students. We are currently working on curriculum and AI tools for  deaf education. See VASLA.org for more! 
  • Foundations of Entrepreneurship - Spring 2019, Gallaudet University
  • Social Entrepreneurship - Spring 2019, Gallaudet University
  • Policy Entrepreneurship - Spring 2021, Gallaudet University

Policy Work

  • Drafted and successfully passed  legislation for the District of Columbia Council: B23-0147, The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Establishment Act of 2019 . This bill was passed in December 2020, and will improve access and outcomes for deaf people in the District of Columbia.  See my testimony starting at 2 hours and 39 minutes here. 
  • Drafted legislation for the District of Columbia Council: B23-0146, The Open Movie Captioning Requirement Act of 2019. This bill is currently Awaiting a Committee of the Whole Vote as of April 2021. 
  • Currently in the planning phase for the Deaf Policy & Advocacy Coalition (DPAC), a policy think tank and eventual political action committee (PAC).
  • Deaf Policy Journal - started a blog in parallel with DPAC in Spring of 2021 to bring light to the need for translating research and science into tangible policy change that will improve deaf lives.
